The Law

The State of Texas now requires a 24 hour waiting period before an abortion and requies that all abortion providers give clients certain information. Medical assistance may be available for prenatal care, childbirth, and neonatal care. The father is liable for assistance in the support of the child without regard to whether he has offered to pay for the abotion. Public and private agencies are available to provide pregancy prevention counseling and referrals for obtaining birth control medications or devies, including emergency contraception for any woman incuding victims of rape or incest. You have the right to request information hat describes the unborn child and list agencies that offer alternatives to abortion. The Texas Department of State Health Servies has prepared an information booklet for this purpose.
